PT-141 Research Summary
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a melanocortin receptor agonist (MC3R and MC4R) that acts in the brain to increase sexual desire and arousal. Because it works through the nervous system instead of blood flow, it differs from drugs like sildenafil. It is FDA-approved as Vyleesi (2019) for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women, and earlier studies also showed effects in men. Nausea and temporary rises in blood pressure are the most common side effects.

Vyleesi is an FDA-approved bremelanotide product for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women. The following is a summary of its prescribing label, not a research-powder protocol and not an instruction to prepare or inject a research vial.

Contraindicated in uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease. The label warns about blood pressure increases, nausea, and focal hyperpigmentation. Discontinue if no improvement after eight weeks; review all warnings with the prescriber.

Storage Instructions
Lyophilized (powder)
Store in the freezer at −20 °C (−4 °F) for long-term storage, or refrigerated at 2–8 °C for shorter periods. Keep dry, sealed and away from light. Let a frozen vial reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation.
Reconstituted
Refrigerate at 2–8 °C (35.6–46.4 °F) and use within about 28 days. Do not freeze. Keep away from heat and direct light, and avoid repeated temperature swings. Swirl gently — never shake.
Reconstitution steps
- Wipe the vial stopper with an alcohol swab.
- Draw the BAC water and release it slowly down the inside wall of the vial.
- Swirl or roll gently until fully dissolved — don't shake.
- Label with the date and concentration and refrigerate.
