TB-500: What It Is, How It Works & What the Research Shows

Overview

TB-500 is a synthetic version of the active region of thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4), a protein found in almost all human cells that binds actin, a key structural protein. Tβ4 promotes cell migration, new blood vessel growth and tissue repair, and reduces inflammation and scarring. Animal studies show faster healing of wounds, muscles, tendons and heart tissue after injury. Full-length Tβ4 has been tested in human trials for dry eye and slow-healing wounds.

Why researchers study it

Soft tissue healing

Speeds repair of muscle, tendon and ligament in animals.

Heart repair

Studied for heart tissue recovery after injury.

Inflammation & scarring

Explored for reducing inflammation and scar formation.

How it works

Thymosin-related research peptide; full-length thymosin β4 findings may not apply.

Adamantane & the blood–brain barrier

Chemically attaching an adamantane group to a peptide can increase its lipid (fat) solubility. Researchers hypothesize that this modification may help certain compounds cross the tightly regulated blood–brain barrier. The effect depends on the specific modified molecule; greater lipid solubility alone does not establish brain delivery or clinical benefit. This does not apply automatically to the unmodified peptide and is not a reconstitution additive.

What the research shows

  • Thymosin-related pathways in cell migration, wound biology, and tissue repair are research areas.

Typical protocol

Reconstitute a 10 mg vial with 1 mL bacteriostatic water for 10 mg/mL. Typical range: 2–5 mg 1–2x a week, 4–12 weeks.

Common stacks

  • TB-500 + BPC-157 — The classic recovery pairing (sold as Wolverine), supporting healing through different pathways.
  • TB-500 + GHK-Cu — Adds collagen-building copper peptide to tissue repair.

Potential benefits & side effects

Potential benefits

  • Faster recovery from soft tissue injuries (tendons, ligaments, muscle)
  • Reduced inflammation and joint discomfort
  • Gut lining support (BPC-157 and KPV)
  • Improved skin quality and wound healing (GHK-Cu blends)

Side effects

  • Injection-site redness, itching or mild swelling
  • Temporary fatigue or lightheadedness
  • Headache or mild nausea
  • Copper-peptide blends can sting at the injection site

Lifestyle factors

  • Load gradually: healing tissue still needs controlled, progressive loading — don't rush back to max effort.
  • Sleep: most tissue repair happens during deep sleep.
  • Nutrition: protein, vitamin C and collagen-supporting foods help connective tissue rebuild.
  • Limit alcohol and smoking, which slow healing.
  • Rotate injection sites; some inject near (not into) the injured area.
