Pinealon: What It Is, How It Works & What the Research Shows
Overview
Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Arg) from the Khavinson bioregulator family. Small enough to cross cell membranes, it is proposed to interact directly with DNA to regulate gene expression. Cell and animal studies have reported protection of nerve cells from oxidative stress and improved cognitive function in aging models. Research is limited and mostly published by a single research group.
Why researchers study it
Neuroprotection
Protected nerve cells from oxidative stress in studies.
Cognitive aging
Explored for memory and cognition in aging models.
Gene regulation
Proposed to act directly on gene expression.
How it works
Short peptide investigated in cellular and neurological research.
Adamantane & the blood–brain barrier
Chemically attaching an adamantane group to a peptide can increase its lipid (fat) solubility. Researchers hypothesize that this modification may help certain compounds cross the tightly regulated blood–brain barrier. The effect depends on the specific modified molecule; greater lipid solubility alone does not establish brain delivery or clinical benefit. This does not apply automatically to the unmodified peptide and is not a reconstitution additive.
What the research shows
- Neuronal stress responses and cellular protection have been explored.
Typical protocol
Reconstitute a 10 mg vial with 1 mL bacteriostatic water for 10 mg/mL. Typical range: 2–5 mg 1x daily am · daily.
Common stacks
- Pinealon + Epithalon — Common Khavinson bioregulator pairing for longevity and cognition.
- Pinealon + Cortagen — Two brain-associated bioregulators run together.
Potential benefits & side effects
Potential benefits
- Improved focus and mental clarity
- Reduced anxiety and stress reactivity
- Better mood and motivation
- Neuroprotective support (BDNF-related peptides)
Side effects
- Nasal irritation with intranasal use
- Mild headache
- Overstimulation or irritability (Semax-type)
- Drowsiness (Selank, DSIP)
Lifestyle factors
- Cycle it: run on/off cycles to maintain responsiveness.
- Timing: dose stimulating peptides (Semax family) early in the day; calming ones (Selank, DSIP) later.
- Sleep and hydration have a bigger effect on cognition than any peptide.
- Limit caffeine stacking to avoid overstimulation.
